CARSON, CA – Not only does Southern California offer year-round riding weather, but it also sports one of the few indoor velodromes in the world. On Sunday, Dec 4, a lucky group of Cycles Veloce club members learned about track safety, rules and etiquette, and got to experience first-hand just what it takes to ride the 45-degree banked turns at the Home Depot Center Velodrome in Carson, CA. This was actually the second Track Day event sponsored by the club this year, after a very successful inaugural event back in April.

The importance of a good paceline can not be overemphasized. It is a necessary skill for maintaining and increasing speeds in group situations such as chasing down or creating breaks in races, or getting through windy stretches as quickly as possible. By taking turns riding in the wind with the others positioned behind, riders can save up to 30% of their energy while sitting in the draft.

And with its new ControlTaper headtube and oversized BB30 carbon bottom bracket shell, it handles like a dream.
Felt Bicycles is one of the new sponsors of Team Simple Green/Bike Religion for 2011.
Los Angeles, CA – In the Oct 5 segment of KABC Channel 7 News series, “What’s Bugging You?”, they reported on how bicyclists ignore traffic laws, infuriating motorists. The fact that they titled the segment “Road Wars” was a bit disturbing, as it made it sound as though the two factions cannot get along on the road together, which is far from true.
Watch the video clip and think about how you represent Cycles Veloce/Team Simple Green when you’re out on your bicycle. Every time you don your team kit and hit the road, remember that your actions with motorists, pedestrians, as well as other cyclists. are a reflection of the club. We hope that you always obey the traffic laws and that your conduct is one that shows the team in a positive light. And remember, when it’s you against a car, the car will almost always win, so ride “smart”.
LAGUNA BEACH, CA – Team Simple Green competitors Dolly Ginter (45-49) and “Flyin” Fiona Petersen (35-39) both took home gold at the 2010 Pacific Coast Triathlon qualifying them for the upcoming “Best of the US Tri” to be held in Mission Viejo in mid October. The Pacific Coast Triathlon is a rough (and this year very cold) water swim, rolling and tough bike and a run – distances are ½ mile, 12 miles, 3 miles respectively.
Dolly finished in a time of 1:10:26 with a 2-½ minute win over the next nearest competitor – this after she was 2nd in the bike leg (by a mere 8 sec’s) and then followed with a blistering 19 min 5k run.
Fiona was fastest on her bike leg and in the run was only bested by 2 seconds; giving her a nearly 6 minute margin of victory at 1:12:17.
As a benchmark – Dolly’s time was good enough for 22nd place overall (male and female, all categories), while Fiona’s was 38th overall. The only other female competitor to have a faster time was Julie Ertel (Pan-American Gold medalist and Olympic Water polo Silver Medalist) with a time of 1:10:06. Dolly and Fiona – Congrats and here’s to you and your hard work and efforts!
The womens 35-39 awards presentation for Fiona Peterson can be found at the 4:20 mark, while the womens 45-49 awards presentation for Dolly Ginter begins at the 6:14 mark.
