Silver and Gold for Simple Green at 2011 Junior Track Nationals
FRISCO, TX – Under a heat wave in Texas, which at 6:15 a.m. it was already 83 degrees, Team Simple Green Juniors Daniel Gay and Chazmichael Morales continued in their pursuit of National titles after their strong performances in the SCNCA State Championships the previous month.
Chazmichael Morales
Chazmichael came in first for the 500TT. The Scratch Race was very hard and fast. Riders were all over the place, lapping the field, and riders were dropped. Chazmichael respectfully came in 6th place. The next day, Chazmichael knew what he needed to do to win the Stars & Stripes. The Points Race was very fast with one rider lapping the field. Chazmichael did the math and did not waste energy chasing him down. He knew that he just needed second place to win the Omnium, which he did. Chazmichael is the current 13-14 Men Junior Track National Champion.
Daniel Gay
The Junior 15-16 Men’s Match Sprint was underway with 38 riders at 7:30 a.m. Daniel Gay qualified and advanced to the semi-finals, won the semi then raced his heart out for gold but was caught at the line and took 2nd.
The Scratch Race followed the next day and the Garmin team was in full force controlling at a very fast pace. Big crash occurred after 19 laps; the race came down to a mass sprint and Daniel grabbed 5th place.
The 500 meter TT followed the next day and Daniel got 4th and is 4th in Omnium points. It all came down to the Points Race on Sunday and yes it was a very fast race with many of the riders getting lapped. At the end, a very tired Daniel kept his 4th place in the Omnium; he came home with 4 medals.
