Volunteers Needed For Amgen Tour STAGE 8
THOUSAND OAKS, CA – As you may well know, the 2014 Amgen Tour of California is right around the corner, running from May 11-18, 2014. This year, the final stage, STAGE 8, is returning to the beautiful city of Thousand Oaks, CA. Stage 8, a circuit race, is also the overall finish to this year’s Tour.
Volunteers Still Needed
Fellow Cycles Veloce/Team Simple Green club members Brenda and Erick Pyne have signed up as volunteers for this final stage, and felt this would be a great way for Cycles Veloce members to show their support of domestic pro cycling. Brenda forwarded the following note from the Stage 8 Volunteer Coordinator, stating that volunteers to work the event are still needed:
My name is Kathy Lowry and I am the Stage 8 Volunteer Coordinator. I work for the City of Thousand Oaks in the Public Works Department where I wear “many” hats; one of which is the Amgen TOC volunteer coordinator.
We are in need of additional volunteers to help with the Amgen Tour of California! Perhaps you can help us at Stage 8 in Thousand Oaks. The start of Stage 8 is at 8:30 a.m. and the overall finish is anticipated to be by noon.
An informational meeting and training is scheduled for April 28 at 6:00 p.m. in the Scherr Forum Theatre located at the Civic Art Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd. Please attend!! There will be several raffles and light refreshments. The meeting should last and hour and a half.
The City NEEDS Volunteers to make the event a success! Those interested in helping out can sign up at http://www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/footer/volunteer. Be sure to CHECK THE BOX FOR STAGE 8 (THOUSAND OAKS).
Any questions or concerns call at (805) 449-2416 or e-mail me – Kathy Lowry
Note that the April 28th meeting is NOT mandatory, as they understand that it’s not feasible for many of the volunteers who live too far from the area to attend. Everyone who is signed up will automatically receive the Powerpoint and summary notes from the meeting.
Sign-Up Deadline May 9th
You can sign up via the Amgen Tour of California website through May 9th. Be sure to check the box for Stage 8 (Overall Finish): Thousand Oaks (Circuit Race).

Work Together as a Group
Club members can request to be grouped together the morning of the event, at the time the volunteers pick up their packets, but the group must be present together. Therefore, it is beneficial to car pool (not to mention there will be very limited parking at the event).

Make Use of the Club’s Forums
Considering the distance to Thousand Oaks, it is recommended that Cycles Veloce club members car pool to the event. The most convenient way to organize this is to make use of the club’s Forums section.
Forum Features:
- Since it is a members-only forum, members can freely exchange contact info that will only be visible to other members.
- Members can also contact others who have posted in the Forum Topic simply by clicking on the Send Message link located below the poster’s name. A personal message can then be written which gets delivered by email to the recipient.
- You can “subscribe” to the Post Topic so that you will be notified by email anytime a new entry is posted by someone.
Once in the Forums, scroll down until you see the Transporation/Lodging Category which contains the Forum Topic Carpooling. Look specifically for the topic named 2014 Amgen ToC Stage 8 Carpooling (link provided below).
After logging in with your username, you can then read and/or add to the discussion.
