Chazmichael Morales Wins Jr. State Track Omnium & Team Pursuit

ENCINO, CA – My name is Chazmichael Morales and I ride for the Cycles Veloce/Team Simple Green team. I entered the 2012 Jr. State Track Championships in the 15-16 Division. With a field of 15 riders, we began the day with a 500 Individual TT; I placed 3rd getting a time of 37.45 seconds. I was a little more confident going into the flying 200TT, where I qualified first with a time of 12.15 seconds. I made the top 8 cut for the match sprint rounds later that afternoon.

Next was the scratch race, which is a straight out race to the finish. As the race wore on, 2 riders took a lap, and I finished in 5th place. By this point, I knew I had to make up some ground in the match sprints and the points race in order to win the overall omnium, I went into the points race in 3rd place overall in the omnium. I knew that I had to win this race in order to take back the lead in the omnium. I ended up 3rd halfway through the race, and then there was a small crash forcing us to restart at 30 laps to go. I ended up lapping the field with 2 other riders and I won the points race.

I took second in the match sprints and I won the omnium overall by one point! I finished the day with a 4 kilometer Team Pursuit for the first time and we finished with a time 5.15 minutes. We won!
