Safe Cycling
ORANGE COUNTY, CA – It’s been a rough couple of weeks in the cycling world. With 2 deaths & 1 injured female road cyclist occurring in O.C. area on Pacific Coast Bike Route, it’s becoming an issue for cycling advocates and law enforcement alike.
San Clemente has made it clear that they are going to be stepping up their Stop sign enforcement while Newport Beach is trying to implement safer riding conditions along the PCH pathway in the Corona Del Mar Area. However, it is up to us as cyclist to make sure that we are riding safe and smart.
It is true that often times we may have right of way but it’s just like driving your car on a Friday night. It’s not you that should be worried, it’s the other drivers on the roads; The ones that are not paying attention, texting, or worse, drunk. It is up to us to make sure that we are paying attention to all the elements because even if we are in the right, a car weighs a whole lot more and can cause severities.
So we ask, please be safe. Please ride with a group if you are new to the sport. If you are not comfortable on the road, find a bike path or route away from cars.
