SANTA ANA, CA – As many of you have already heard, this past Sunday morning, fellow club member Tino Riveron Jr was involved in a hard crash in the final meters of the Como Street Ride. He was admitted to Western Medical in Santa Ana. The diagnosis is a broken collarbone, broken scapula, compound fractures to each of 3 ribs, and some slight bleeding around his sternum. He is doing well, considering the extent of his injuries, and it’s anticipated that he will be moved out of the ICU to a regular room sometime later today or evening. Until then, unfortunately, he cannot have visitors nor accept calls.
We know everyone is deeply concerned for his well-being, so we will be updating this article regularly as things progress. In order to minimize calls to both Lois and Mike, they ask that you please check back here for updates.
Keep a good thought in mind for his quick recovery. You can also leave a comment for him below if you’d like. “He’s doing good… for a banged-up old guy!”
UPDATE 4/02 3:15 pm – Text from Tino, sounds like he’s in good spirits:
"Guys, thanks for your calls. I am in the hurt box but will live to fight another day. Bunch of broken stuff but on good meds. Not sure how long I will be here. Cannot take calls."
UPDATE 4/02 5:00 pm – Moving Out of ICU:
Tino should be moving out of ICU soon and will be able to start having guests. However, at this time it is not known how long he will require hospitalization before being released. Will update when more information becomes available.
UPDATE 4/02 10:00 pm – Tino Now Accepting Visitors!
Latest report has Tino feeling pretty good — apparently it doesn’t hurt to laugh, or else it’s the morphine (and we’re not referring to the band) working! Tino seems to be his good old self, laughing lots, telling stories and keeping visitors entertained. For those who would like to visit, he should be there until Thursday or Friday. I’m sure he’d love the company.
UPDATE 4/04 10:00 pm – Coming Home!
Tino has been given the okay to leave the hospital Thursday, April 5, now sporting one of those fancy X braces. Thanks to all who visited him and for all the well wishes!
UPDATE 4/09 8:00 pm – Thank You from Tino
“Hello everyone, I just wanted to send out a quick thank you message for all your calls, messages, visits and overall support after my little mishap last weekend. It sure is comforting knowing you have great friends like all of you thinking about me. I can’t really express how good that actually feels, you guys are the best!
As most of you know I’m at home and doing alot better. I’m up and around and actually got out to play at the park with Josh today for some fun in the sun. Getting comfortable while sleeping is still one of the major deals. So far the recliner chair is the best. I have my first follow-up appointment with my primary doctor tomorrow and will get another opinion regarding the healing process and if everything is on track.
Thanks again for your wonderful thoughts and support.
